And here’s some thoughts of the younger generation on what liberty means to them.

In Harussani's comments, signs of growing rebellion against Umno's elite

Unknown | 11:23 AM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

When Perak Mufti Harussani revealed that he had met and advised Prime Minister Najib Razak on the need to address three important issues concerning widening Malay disunity, he actually let the cat out of the bag on many extremely important and key issues.
Let us review what he said.
“I said (to Najib) that the divide among Malays is caused by a weak government, corruption and lack of trust,” Harussani told a religious forum organised by Sinar Harian earlier this week.
Elaborating that the major split among Malays occurred after former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed sacked Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from public office, Harussani also said that unlike Najib, his father Tun Abdul Razak had listened to the Perak Mufti’s advise to address three issues that were contrary to Islam.

The most terrible toxin in politics

The anti-rare earth plant peaceful rally was threatened by violence, Malay right group Perkasa members openly used violence against a photographer during a rally and lawmakers have received dead threats via short messages on mobile phones.
Today, even the Home Minister has received a dead threat letter attached with two bullets. How could such terrible incident take place in Malaysia, a country being ranked 19th in the Global Peace Index (GPI), which is also the highest place among Southeast Asian countries?

Secret pacts: Time for Najib to take the stand and answer Anwar, Malaysia

Unknown | 10:53 AM | | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Anwar Ibrahim’s recent statement in defense of himself is indeed a damning indictment to his foes. It revealed the apparent flaws within the prosecution's case against him and also the biased nature of the courts themselves in the handling of the high-profile Sodomy II case.
Above all, it put on record the long-held suspicion of how dirty politics is in Malaysia's ruling UMNO party, to the extent that white can be turned to black and vice-versa without conscience or respect for the truth, justice and the citizens' wishes.

Over-hyped bozos running GLCs

Unknown | 10:19 AM | | Best Blogger Tips

The greatest disservice the government does to Malay economic advancement is the creation of government-linked companies (GLCs).
They have only served to crowd out fair competition and as a result, stifle the emergence of robust Bumi business people. They run with the Malay hares and hunt with the corporate dogs.
So, if we really understand the problem, the least damaging solution is to dismantle most of the GLCs.
That decision will only damage a small number of people but can benefit a larger number.

PETALING JAYA: Harapan Komuniti, the organisers of the thanksgiving dinner raided by the Selangor Religious Islamic Department (JAIS) on Aug 3, received a death threat yesterday morning.
The source who informed FMT of the incident was unable to provide any details except that the handwritten note was written in Malay and contained a warning to Christians that Muslims would not “lose”.
Harapan Komuniti lodged a police report at the Sea Park police station at about 10pm last night.
The police officer in charge confirmed this but said that details of the report were confidential.

Loan sharks drive man to attempt suicide

A. Sacitheran, seen here with his youngest daughter Fiona, shows one of the police reports he had lodged against loan sharks threatening him.
TWO months ago, A. Sacitheran reached a point when he could no longer stand being hunted down by five different Ah Long (loan sharks) at the same time.

"They demanded RM300,000 from me. So I drank insecticide in a bid to commit suicide," said the 36-year-old father of three children, including one with Down's Syndrome.

The hardship faced by Sacitheran that led to his suicide bid was due to his involvement with illegal moneylenders who made him feel like a fugitive.

Lim Kit Siang: Najib becoming the first 'Kafkaesque' PM

Unknown | 1:55 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

Datuk Seri Najib Razak runs the risk of becoming the first Kafkaesque Prime Minister in Malaysia who does not mean what he says and does not say what he means.

“Kafkaesque” relates to or suggestive of Franz Kafka or his writings and is often applied to bizarre and impersonal administrative situations where the individual feels powerless to understand or control what is happening.
The national sigh of relief evoked by the wise and just intervention of the Yang diPertuan Agong on Monday – that the “gathering storm” in the past week over the Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9 calling for free, fair and clean elections could be dispelled – lasted only 24 hours, for it proved to be both short-lived and premature.

When a mufti can't meet a govt leader: 'Lu pikirlah sendiri!'

That was the spontaneous reaction from PAS's Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (above) at a recent public forum, after fellow panelist, Perak mufti Harussani Zakaria, related his experience of being denied a meeting with Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1998.

“When even a mufti can be snubbed, well, think about it.

"Lu pikirlah sendiri!” remarked Tuan Ibrahim, borrowing a phrase popularised by a local comedian, which prompted a roar of laughter from the audience.

He was part of the panel at the forum in Shah Alam on August 24 called "Ulama in Politics: for Da'wah or for the Party" organised by Malay dailySinar Harian
and moderated by former Perlis mufti Dr Asri Zainul Abidin. Besides Harussani and Tuan Ibrahim, a representative from UMNO's so-called Young Ulama group, Fathul Bari Mat Jahya.

Politics destroyed our beliefs, liberty

Unknown | 12:32 AM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

KUALA LUMPUR: Liberty is the cornerstone of democracy, at least that’s the feeling that’s permeating the grassroots Malaysians these days.
Much has changed in this country even as we, Malaysians, journeyed through cornerstones in 1957, 1969, 1999 and 2008.
Each of these milestones – 1957′s Merdeka, 1969′s May 13, 1999′s Reformasi and 2008′s political tsunami – has left us with new knowledge, realisation and wants.
Each of these milestones has spawned new thinking which invariably has both inspired leaders and stirred insecurities within the political fraternity.

Those adequate to take the responsibility must be “virgins hand-picked by Gaddafi,” according to the news.
The candidates had to make oath that they would sacrifice themselves for Gaddafi and were required to remain virgins throughout their duty.
He will never tolerate them falling in love with other males.
Apparently, the "Killer Beauties" were compelled to undergo female genital cutting.
They also had to go through martial arts and firearms training before actually being dispatched.
Despite strict doctrines, the job was popular among Libyan women, Blitz reported.
Amid speculation that the force’s duties included “sexual favours,” Gaddafi claimed that the system “empowers” women, making them strong enough to protect themselves from enemies, Mediaite added.

Unknown | 8:10 PM | | | | Best Blogger Tips

KUALA LUMPUR : A consultant molecular geneticist said he would not expect to see sperm on the rectal swab stick sample taken from Mohamad Saiful Bukhari Azlan as bacterial overgrowth would have destroyed it, the High Court here heard today.
Dr Brian Leslie McDonald (pix), 60, from Australia said this when Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s lawyer Ram Karpal Singh asked about the condition of the rectal swab stick taken on June 28, 2008.
Ram said the sample was taken from Saiful’s anus 56 hours after the alleged sodomy on June 26, sealed and kept by the investigating officer for two days (in a cabinet) in his office i.e. 48 hours at room temperature, before it was sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis.

Dr Seah is the government’s DNA expert who had allegedly told the court to give the benefit of the doubt when questions were raised over the dates on two containers holding DNA samples sent to her for analysis.

Go gracefully, Jui Meng advises Tsu Koon as Umno, even Vincent Tan attacks

PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng has advised his former colleague Koh Tsu Koon to "go gracefully" from the BN coalition of which the 62-year Gerakan president been a member since the 1980s.
"If I were Tsu Koon, I would go gracefully. But I must also say it is not right for BN treat Tsu Koon this way. After all, he did contribute to their coalition in the past, no doubt in his own way and also in the way that they required him to," Jui Meng, a former Health minister and MCA vice president, told Malaysia Chronicle.
"The thing is, if you don't want him, just tell him so. Don't make a circus of it all and tar him until he has no dignity left. I think Tsu Koon should leave a heartless coalition like the BN. He should become an Independent or else join Pakatan. Whichever his decision, the point is, don't allow yourself to be kicked like this. It's not worth it."
