AdilanClub:Breaking news, is the best for news

The current Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Selangor government is not responsible for the collapsed flyover in Cyberjaya yesterday, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.

“I don’t think so. The contract was done in 2007,” the Selangor mentri besar said when asked whether PR was at fault for the incident.

Abdul Khalid however, echoed the view of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) that the flyover should be rebuilt first, and its management will deal with the incident professionally.

“We’re not going to find fault, but we want to make sure that all things are corrected,” Abdul Khalid said.

The mentri besar said the PKNS management has already signed an integrity pact which will allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate any wrongdoing.

“They’ll see whether the nature of the decision-making is professional and in line with the standards set for corporate governance,” he said, referring to the corruption watchdog.

PKNS may sue PLUS

Abdul Khalid reiterated Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu’s claim yesterday that PKNS may sue PLUS Malaysia Berhad if evidence shows that the highway operator caused the collapse of the flyover.

Meanwhile, PKNS general manager Othman Omar said today that PKNS was not yet considering legal suit against any parties over the incident.

Othman stressed that the priority now was to rectify the situation, and have a thorough investigation to find out the cause of the incident.

“We’ll have to decide (then) ... We’ll cross the bridge (when we come to it). We don’t want to speculate on the issue,” Othman told The Malaysian Insider.

The flyover collapsed around 12.30pm yesterday, and appeared to have been broken into two pieces, in the latest incident involving public works projects in the country.

PKNS confirmed that no one was hurt in the incident.

The flyover, which was closed last November, is an exit from the Elite Highway. The Lingkaran Putrajaya stretch managed by PLUS towards Putrajaya runs below it.

Work on the RM7 million flyover by contractor BNI Construction started in October 2007 and it was completed on November 2009. Four developers — PKNS, Utuh Aspirasi Sdn Bhd, Taraf Unggul Sdn Bhd and Semai Ria Sdn Bhd — shared the cost of its construction.
